Posted on April 23, 2011 by Erren Van Duine

The official Japanese Final Fantasy Type-0 site has opened, and with it comes a nice bit of new media, including screenshots and character artworks.

All screenshots are from in-game so you can see that director Hajime Tabata was not lying when he said he would push the PSPs graphical power to its limits. In addition to locations, we can see that recently revealed characters Ace, Nine, Queen, and Kurasame are represented in both scenario and battle images.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is set to release this summer in Japan. An actual date has yet to be revealed, but with increasing magazine coverage, it probably wont be too much longer until that happens. In the meantime, you can view the new screens below or in the Media Vault.

Apple Including Ultra High Resolution Artwork in Lion for Possible Retina …

A finding earlier this month by OSXDaily has generated some speculation about Apples plans for Retina display Macs. The Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 released in late March included an ultra-high resolution version of the background desktop image at a resolution of 3200×2000. A few observers noted that this is higher than any Apple display has ever supported, generating speculation that Apple is preparing for Retina display Macs in the near future.

We had previously reported that Mac OS X Lion has made some under-the-hood changes opening the door to such super-high resolution displays.

Taking cues from iOS, Apple has reportedly built in support for what it calls HiDPI display modes. These HiDPI modes allow developers to supply 2x-enlarged images to support double-high resolution displays. Like the iPhone 4s Retina Display, this means that user interface elements will remain the same size, but everything will be twice the resolution and therefore twice as detailed.

Now, MacMagazine.com.br has found that Apple is already starting to include other super high resolution artwork in Lion. They found several icons stored as 1024×1024 sizes, up from a previous maximum of 512×512.

Of course, this support for super high resolution displays is only the first step, but suggests Apple is planning ahead when the hardware becomes available.

Update: The 1024×1024 icons in Mac OS X Lion were publicized [Google translation] earlier last week by Consomac.fr.

Fred Done’s approach to wagering was one that stood out from the rest by offering excellent customer value and excellent service which is still the hallmark of the business today. Gaming: Online gambling crackdown puts poker world in limbo

Greg Raymer, whose $160 entry fee in an online poker tournament led to a $5 million win at the 2004 World Series of Poker, says its hard to tell how a federal crackdown on online gaming will affect WSOP entries this year.

But hes a gambler. If he had to bet, hed figure on a sizeable drop. The 2011 WSOP, a series of 58 events, starts May 31 in Las Vegas. Its Main Event, which begins July 7, had 7,319 entries last year.

If I was actually putting a number to bet on, I would say more like somewhere in the low 5,000s (this year), Raymer said by phone from his home in Raleigh, NC If you made me pick a number because you were going to bet either over or under » it would be something like 5,250.

Last Friday, federal authorities in New York targeted three online gaming firms: PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker. Eleven people were charged with bank fraud and illegal gambling. Restraining orders were issued against about 75 bank accounts allegedly used to process payments in 14 countries.

Some fallout so far:

» Full Tilt has been a major sponsor in mixed martial arts. It was about to return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship. But Caren Bell, a spokeswoman for UFCs parent company Zuffa, confirmed the deal has been shelved.

» ESPN2, which was to begin taped coverage of the North American Poker Tour Monday, said the shows will not air. PokerStars was presenting sponsor.

Plans have not changed for the WSOP, said spokesman Mike Soltys of ESPN, which aired WSOP shows from July 27 through Nov. 9 last year.

The World Series of Poker, not affiliated with PokerStars or the other two firms and operated by Caesars Entertainment, declined comment on possible effects on its 2011 entries because of the crackdown.

The Main Event took a hit after 2006 passage of the federal Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which prohibits firms from knowingly accepting US payments in connection with unlawful Internet gambling.

There were a record 8,773 entries in the Main Event in 2006. The next year, after the WSOP prohibited third parties such as online firms from directly paying the $10,000 entry fees for participants, entries fell to 6,358.
